Farewell

You left but didn't close the door.
And so we wanted to have more.
But what we got was less of you,
the one we loved, the one we knew.
This bid farewell has lasted years.
So yes, it's sad and we've shed tears.
But now at last you've gone to rest,
and found your peace. It's for the best.
In heaven, it's a brand new day.
There is no more fog to block the way.
You're once again all that you were,
and in the light - of that we're sure.
Though gone, you're with us everyday.
You're in our hearts, and there you'll stay.
For no disease or death can still,
what love recalls and always will.

One year ago today...

One year ago today, I spent my Grandaddy's last day on Earth with him.  I rubbed his legs, sang him songs, and tried to encourage him to drink.  That evening, his sick body couldn't take anymore, and he passed on from this world to the next.

I read this at his funeral.

I can't really write anything else.  I just do my best every day to make him as proud of me as I was of him.

High Flight

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

"Your best isn't good enough"

I don't even know what to write.  I'm having one of those years that pushes teachers out of teaching.  Not because of the kids.. because of the adults.

Finding it very difficult to stay positive and smiling. A few teachers have been targeted.  I am one. Was told on Thursday I would be transferred out, yesterday was told I'd be staying.

7 months to go.
